How to Price Photography Packages in India
Many photographers price by copying the studio down the road. That's how you end up busy but broke. Here's a simple method to price packages based on your real costs and the value you deliver.
Step 1: Know your cost per event
Direct costs
Second shooters, assistants, travel, album printing, drives.
Editing time
Culling, colour, retouching, album design. Put a value on your hours.
Overheads per event
Rent, software, equipment wear, insurance and marketing, divided by events per year.
Step 2: Add profit, then compare with the market
Add a target margin on top of your cost (many studios aim for 30–50%). Then compare with studios of similar quality in your city. If you're far below, raise prices; if you're far above, make sure your portfolio and experience justify it.
Step 3: Build three packages
| Package | Purpose | Typical contents |
|---|---|---|
| Essential | Entry price that's still profitable | One photographer, main functions, edited photos online |
| Signature (most chosen) | Your best value | Candid + traditional, album, highlight film, Live Photo Share for guests |
| Premium | Anchors the price, wins high-budget clients | Full team, pre-wedding, two albums, full film, drone |
Step 4: Price add-ons separately
- Extra hours or functions
- Extra albums for parents
- Drone coverage
- Same-day edits
- Live guest photo sharing with face match
- Express delivery
Step 5: Review prices every year
If you're fully booked months ahead, your prices are too low. Raise them for new enquiries each season, and honour old quotes. Present packages professionally with a clear quotation.
